You might want to point which one don't ? Note: I can beat any of your arguments. There are no more fundamentalist fundamentalist than Polish Catholics.

That's a bit sad. I don't know how old you are; but I was in Poland when there were still illegal Solidarity demonstrations after Sunday Mass at a certain Warsaw church. Each one was met by baton-wielding ZOMO. I'll

never

forget one demonstration, not at the regular church, but rather in the

Stare

Miasto in Warsaw, which was the worst I was at. We heard there was to be

a

demonstartion after mass at the church (I think St. Anne's) on the small

street

between the Rynek and Zamkovy Square.

That was long time ago. They've evolved since then. Much.

My point is, that the Church was the central focus of the movement that ultimately liberated your country. I don't know how old you are, but I strongly suspect you are too young to have been a part of those time,

judging

by the statement you made above. I saw nothing but bravery from those

priests

and parishoners and solidarity activists at those masses and

demonstrations.

If Solidarity was the left hand, the Church was the right hand.

I wouldn't mind you not patronizing me like that. I may be young, but I'm still a historian. Well, a historian-wannabe, at least. As said before. You are completely right about that, of course. the Church was one of the most important institution on our way to freedom, with Pope and all. And it still has a massive influence on both morality and legality of things here. Perhaps you missed my shortcut. I'm not talking all christians. We have a group - seriously growing in numbers - of catholic fundamentals here, a group that showed up in the nineties, not earlier, probably because, like all fundamentalists, they are in fact cowards... anyway, I believe that if they were allowed to grow peacefully (and they were for last couple of years) they would evolve into nothing less than christian version of Taliban. Anyway my point is - for last four years they had massive influence on government, and the laws introduced are strict to the matter of ridiculousness, for instance, the only country in Europe that has as strict abortion law as Poland is Ireland, and that's _not_ a good thing (though you as a Republican(?) probably don't think so), especially that it's so much against the will of majority of the voters (they've elected post-communists now). You may disagree with me, but that's only because you haven't heard them. They can be really terrifying sometimes. That's more or less what I was trying to say in my puny attempt of being puny (as in 'pun') :) (not to mention that I said something really strange in the end. It should be 'fundamental fundamentalists'. But you got it, anyway)
