I found some words from "chris cunningham" <chrislee@neo.rr.com>in my phone cable...

seems to me that the palestinians should rediscover civil disobedience, ala thoreau and gandhi: play nice, do whatever the conqueroring israelis say, and watch u.s. public opinion turn, in response to the poor peaceful palestinians being crowded off their own lands, into squalid reservations -- i mean interment camps -- no, wait, refugee camps, that's what they're calling them this time around, right.

shooting themselves in the foot, that's what the palestinians are doing, all right.

Yes. Well, I'm realistic enough to doubt that pure civil disobedience would work in that case. This requires a charismatic leader like Gandhi and a somewhat super-human patience of the people. But letting open the question of actual self-defence against, let's say, tanks in Dschenin (English spelling? Jenin?), I totally agree that these silly, foot-shooting, brutal suicide bombings have to be stopped immediately.

Perhaps it needs a combined effort of both sides. Palestinian civil disobedience, garnished with mass demonstrations (without gunfire, of course), and also a Israeli general strike. Add some refusal of obedience in the Israeli army (well, this would solve the self-defense problem, no attacks - no defense), and you'll quickly see a strange picture: all these Likud hardliners and bigoted orthodox Jewish settlers and Muslim fanatics and power-hungry Hamas bastards united. For the first time ever. Doing the same thing. Running!
