And, for the record, like *many* Irish people I regard the RCC with disgust and distaste.

However, I wouldn't go over to the 'other' side of my family (who are CoI) - Protestantism being just as bad, when it has come to being the cause of so much death and human misery down through the ages (with the notable exception of the Quakers).

You need to expand your moral horizons a little beyond the Victorian view of the order of things and their repugnant love of the great WASP "British Empire" - I recommend a start with "Humanism".
