Ah... so first they have to acknowledge Israel's right to exist and then they have to acknowledge Israel's right to keep all Palestinians out of the land that Israel gained through either UN mandate or conquest and the forced deportation (or 'ethnic cleansing' as it is called nowadays) of the Palestinian residents.

Flame of the West
Actually, the Palestinians left voluntarily in 1948.

paulh
No they FLED voluntarily. They didn't happily give up their land. They fled. I don't think they had good cause to flee.. but thats in hindsight.

They left to get out of the fighting, confident that the Jews would be swept into the sea & they could return immediately thereafter. They were wrong. Those Palestinians who remained on their land & held possession were permitted to remain & to become Israeli citizens if they chose.

And today's Palestinians are not the same people who left.

paulh
Some of them are.. and the rest are the children of those who fled.

Many more are the grandchildren of those who fled. A good many are the great-grandchildren.

If your great-grandfather abandoned his home & moved to another country, would that give you any kind of right to claim his former property from its present occupant? No.

Only Israel has people camped on its borders in refugee camps for 50 years.

True. No Arab country will admit the Palestinians as immigrants.

Estimates vary, but between 500,000 & 600,000 Palestinian Arabs left the former mandate of Palestine in 1948. Their so-called friends, the Arab states, put them in refugee camps & did not permit them to leave. In the decade after 1948, the same Arab states expelled between 500,000 & 600,000 Jews. The State of Israel received virtually every one of those Jews, made them citizens, found homes for them, & integrated them into their society & economy. Do you see a different standard of behaviour here?
