Snipping isolated verses out of context does not provide the meaning of the Bible. One has to read the New Testament as a whole to understand what it is trying to convey.

And what is unmistakable and clear is that the message of Jesus is one of nonviolence.

As for:

"Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword."

this refers to family discord when some members of a family convert to Christianity and others do not.

Yes, many so-called Christians do engage in violence, and there are even some things in the Bible that may be encouraging them, but this still has nothing to do with what Christianity is about.
