BerenIt is always dangerous when scientists wander beyond their field of expertise. Sometimes it can be insightful, but just as often they end up make the most terrible fools of themselves. Fred Hoyle's weighing into biology is probably the most notorious example of this.
Quite true regarding Carl Sagan. Who, I might also add, did not contribute as much to science as what he, his colleagues, and the media made out. And he also said some very foolish things with regards to matters he had no experience with.
