Conrad DunkersonThey don't speak Arabic. They don't look like Arabs. They are not semitic. If you want to classify them with other nearby nations I would go towards central Asia. Turkic languages are spoken quite widely, even in Afganistan. Arabs were people to reckon with just after the time of the Prophet (Mohammad that is). Turkish (Ottoman) times came much later. And it was them who finally defeated the Arabs when they sacked Bagdad.
Hrrrm, well it is not in the 'League of Arab States', but it is at the least 'on the borders of the Arab world' - both geographically and culturally.
