Jette GoldieWell, some of them were probably Anglo-Saxons. Edinburgh was founded by Anglo-Saxons who settled in Caledonia in the 5th century, if remember correctly. Anyway, it was at about the same time as the Scots settled in the northwest from Ireland. But of course, the British Celts had lived in Caledonia for much longer than that. And *they* had assimilated an even older population that spoke another, non-Celtic Ilanguage. And *they* had assimilated even older peoples that were not Indo-Europeans. And so it goes for all of us, everywhere.
As a Lowland Scot I can say that our ancestors were Celts - just not *Irish Celts* - they had more in common with the Welsh and Cornish, as can be seen still in some of the place names.
