Another thing: The U.S. was supporting Israel in 1967. Also in 1948, 1956, 1973, & 1982. That's five times the Arabs have gone to full-scale war against Israel, _despite_ the Israelis' American backing. If it didn't stop them five times before, why should it stop them now?

The war in 1956 was started by Israel, >Britain and France.

That simple statement is incorrect and leaves a lot out.

The 1956 war was preceeded by hundreds of 'fedayeen' raids into Israel from Egypt, Jordan and Syria causing well over a thousand Israeli casualties. In addition, Egypt illegally cut off Israeli shipping from the Suez Canal.

Moreover, the Arabs were cleary moving towards war:

Egyptian Foreign Minister, Muhammad Salah al-Din, said early in 1954: "The Arab people will not be embarrassed to declare: We shall not be satisfied except by the final obliteration of Israel from the map of the Middle East."

On August 31, 1955 President Nasser said: "Egypt has decided to dispatch her heroes, the disciples of Pharaoh and the sons of Islam and they will cleanse the land of Palestine....There will be no peace on Israel's border because we demand vengeance, and vengeance is Israel's death"

This is a reference to fedayeen fighters sent into Israel from Egypt.

October 14, 1956 Nasser said: "I am not solely fighting against Israel itself. My task is to deliver the Arab world from destruction through Israel's intrigue, which has its roots abroad. Our hatred is very strong. There is no sense in talking about peace with Israel. There is not even the smallest place for negotiations."

On October 25, 1956, the armies of Jordan and Syria were placed under overall command of Nasser.

On October 29, 1956, Israel invaded the Sinai.

Gee, I wonder why?

The war in 1982 was Israel's invasion of Lebanon.

Preceded my numerous rocket attacks by the PLO into Northern Israel. Don't forget that.
