It's sad news. I heard it announced on BBC1 TV station... She was still the queen when tolkien was alive.
It's not 100% certain,but were he alive today he might have been the oldest person in the UK...the oldest man and oldest woman whose documentation have already been checked were born later in 1892 than he was.
Anyone born before Jan 22nd 1901 (like the Queen Mother) has lived in six reigns starting with Victoria's. When the present Queen acceded Feb 6th 1952 that was not particularly rare,but it becomes more so all the time.
