Joyfrom simpler elements still.

Human bodies weren't made by chance. They grew from one celled 'acorns' over billions of years.
Where did the 'acorn' cell(s) come from?
Can non-living matter spontaneously become living, given enough time? (I'm not trying to be argumentative--I really don't know. Has it been done in a lab?) Or do you subscribe to the Martian-spawn theory? :)Well evolotionists certainly believe so. Amino Acids are the building blocks of proteins and these are certainly easy to make in the Lab. But no one has made NEW life (as in cellular life) in a Lab cos it would take too long to do so. People have made new proteins from new sets of Amino Acids. But this isn't life as we know it yet
Are there any living organisms around that do not have a 'parent' of some sort... maybe they spontaneously generate their own life from water and the right amount of gases...?Very good questions, they are at the forefront of archeobiology (my own word). Amino Acids come from water, ammonia, hydrogen, and methane. Amino Acids form Proteins, Proteins are the mechanism by which Cellular life controls its actions and reactions. Exactly how did these items then come together to make a cell is harder to say. I'm no expert but not many scientists say this didnt occur, but the mechanism and path is the most interesting element. It is thought that life only originated once, as all lifeforms use DNA (which is very complex) inthe same way. If life had started more than once then some creatures would use DNA and others woudnt. Its too big a question for here (and me). But there are some books out there on it.
Odd that this is in a Queen Mother thread, but I can't bothered to start another. It'll bugger the stats..
