I see Channel 4 is presently rebroadcasting a warts-and-all documentary on Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, much of which resurfaces in this article which has just been posted as an URL on soc.culture.irish http://www.socialistworker.co.uk/1706/sw170614.htm
I went to that link with an open mind... but having read the most biased misinterpreted poorly written bit of rubbish I've ever read I'm sure I'll never go back
Anything with the name "socialistworker" that discusses any aspect of the Monarchy is very likely to be extremely biased. The never forgiven the English people for the fact that no one seemed particularly interested in turning Great Britain into a proper worker's paradise.
JoyTypically, monarchies cost no more than presidencies... in the British situation, when you add up the two sides of the equation(Royal revenue handed to Treasury and reverse) you find that the Government actually leeches a huge profit off the Monarch and family, though the "our taxes pay to keep them in luxury!" whiners screw their eyes tight very shut at this.
Although I must say any of you living under a monarchy spend a helluva lot on their upkeep.
