Well, Egypt and Jordan did, to an extent. But a full recognition of Israel's right to exist as a Jewish state must include a repudiation of any Palestinian right of return. This is simple logic, since any significant repatriation would doom Israel's Jewish character in the long run. We'll know the Arabs are serious about peace when they make room for the Palestinians in their own countries and let them out of the refugee prison camps.

If the other Arab states wanted to to give the Palestinians a state they

could

have any time prior to the 1967 War. Prior to that war, Egypt controlled

the

Gaza Strip and Jordan controlled the West Bank. I wonder why no one ever

asks

this question?

Furthermore, Israel rightly took those areas in the 1967 war, since Israel

was

being *attacked* from there. Isreal is under no obligation to return them

in

the absence of a settled peace.

So true... Israel was being attacked from there in 1967 so its only right that they can brutalise civilians in that area 35 years later. Might is Right and all..

Might does not make right. But, of course, sometimes might is right.

Anyway...what civilians are being brutalized? The same civilians, a vast majority of which, support and condone suicide bombers?

The Palestinians could have had a state 54 years ago. But no they attacked. They could have had a state anytime between 1948 and 1967 had Egypt and Jordan seen fit to give them the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. Not only didn't they do so, they attacked ISrael instead. They could have had a state when Prime Minister Barak offered one to them a few years ago. But no, they would rather kill Israeli civilians. The Palestinians have yet to show they have joined the civilized world. What could have been a Palestinian state is now a smouldering ruin because Arafat refused to make peace with Barak and the Palestinain people agreed with Arafat. Plain and simple.

How many times was Israel supposed to be attacked? 5? 10? 20? At what point does Israel have a right to say, 'Enough'. At what point are the justified in looking out for their own security first? According to those who think like you, apparently the answer is never.
