The IRA has also committed both terrorist acts (pub bombings) and non-terrorist acts (shooting paratroopers that attacked nationalist areas while wearing their combat fatigues).

"Attacked nationalist areas"? They shot everyone they saw? In that case you should report them to the British authorities; behaving like that is illegal, and the Israeli and Zimbabwean governments are currently the only ones who condone behaviour of that nature by their armed forces. Of course, you may simply claim that the nationalist areas were occupied territory and the IRA legitimate defence forces fighting to evict an invading force. However, international law does not agree with you.

Poor Ojay. What an idealist you must have been in your younger days!

LOL!

I suppose you'll be dressing me up in black armbands again, but I'm not a rabid Republican.

To understand why your post was so funny to me, you must first realise that there are two "Britains", where the British people themselves are concerned. London/the Home Counties and the Rest of the UK.

So, in general, British people that I have met are law-abiding, hard-working, god-fearing, pleasant people, the further north you go, the more so. There is much Irish stock there so no surprises that I've found common ground or whatever, but even english people themselves see the difference between say Tyneside and London.

There are also two "Britains" as far as the running of the country is concerned. The population as a whole and the mandarins in the Corridors of Power. These only sometimes number members of the Government and are composed mainly of members of "the real Government", just like mandarins do in every country.

So, in general, even Londoners look askance at the antics of their own special forces in wartime or when they're caught carrying out covert operations that have been discovered. Indeed London Lefties are VERY left :-) With regard to special forces, I'm not talking about the Bobbies on the Beat here, who have one of the hardest cities in the world to police and tackle their job reasonably well. Certainly I have never had a bad experience with an English copper.

Now to some hard facts to back up my generalized waffle.

The Brits own secret files were "stolen" on Paddy's day from a "secure" facility" in Norn Iron to which they had only recently been moved. Ronnie Flanagan [himself I believe an ex-Special Branch man] was quick to confirm what had been stolen was secret codings for secret agents names but so far we haven't seen any video footage showing the raiders, their getaway vehicle or heard any statement from expert witnesses who saw them. Most unusual. Not.

Who would benefit from such a theft? The IRA? Nope. It is in their interest that those particular files are available for inspection by the various independent bodies which now either about to or who are currently investigating the former RUC.

Who carried out the theft? The IRA? Nope. The modus operandi was entirely that of the British Secret Service and the level of intelligence of the whereabouts of the files pointed to the work as being a clinical, professional, inside job. Or are we to believe that the IRA have moles so deep under cover in the current policing body that they were aware of the movement of these files in such short order? Incompetence of cover-up? Either way this smells.

What recourse do nationalists in Norn Iron have? International law? Nope again. Neither International law nor its representatives ever gets to see the evidence. Even the Bloody Sunday enquiry is being conducted under the auspices of the British Courts, which have gone out of their way to prevent the soldiers who committed the murders giving evidence openly.

I hope that this unprecedented step at covering up "blows up" in the faces of whoever carried it out.

I hope that international Law and its representatives get to view the evidence and censure the British Government and the British Secret Service for their suspected leaking of sensitive information to Protestant Paramilitaries, on foot of which several murder of catholics and solicitors were carried out.

I hope that those responsible for the leaks, as well as those who carried out the murders, are brought to justice and made ot pay the full penalty for their misdeeds.

I hope all this.

But I'm not holding my breath.

FWIW
