ACIndeed..if I WAS a God-botherer I'd find the 'scientific' basis for life (as guided by God) fare more beautiful and amazing that just zapping up everything 8000 years ago or so.

That's true, but there *are* scientists who think that believing in evolution would also take a leap of faith. A survey a couple years back showed that 40% of US scientists believe in God (45% don't, and 15% are agnostic)...
Believing in God and believing in evolution are not necessarily divergent. How many of those scientists were asked their opinion on evolution?
