Aren't "unlikely" and "the probability is slim" basically the same? Yes, I assume that the probability of evolution is slim... because it seems unlikely... <looks confused>

Unlikely only means that there is a less than 50% chance of it happening. "The probability is slim" implies a much lower chance, around 10% or less, the way I read it.

Ah... ok. So I maybe should've said "it *is* unlikely, because the probability is slim", because "slim" is a subset of "unlikely"..? Argh, whatever. :) And anyway, who's to say what is "slim"?! You men and your oppressive fashion magazines!! <whines in typical feminist manner>
