The above item, setting Output Depth, might be the problem with opening the TIFF files with GIMP. The latest GIMP releases just convert a 16 bit depth file to 8 bits, but earlier ones gave an error.

I have gimp 2.8.

My ufraw is set for 8 bit depth, this seem to work since filesize is about half what it was before I set the bit depth to 8. Still did not work this way.

But I just found what the problem was. I had reasons to suppose that there was a problem with the exif, since once I noticed a short displayed message saying something about unexpected flash parameter in the exif. Can't remember how I got that displayed. But I just tried to launch ufraw with the --noexif option (now I got it inside the config).

With this option noexif, I get tiff images that do open nicely with GIMP !
