You haven't the faintest idea of what my needs were back in those days. Almost nothing useful was available in package form, not even for the IBM PC. We had to write much of our own stuff.

Back in the days of the Apple II and the early pCs. With the exception of word processing and spreadsheets, I found it easier to write my own programs, than learn a product that may or may not do what I needed, I relied heavily on dBase, and basic. Yeah! I wrote a lot of spaghetti code, and did not have the most effecient data bases, but the worked foe me.

Sounds familiar. :-)

At that time I was still using the Cromemco stuff which was very advanced for its time. They had a structured semi-compiling Basic which handled local and global variables, sub-routines and procedures, could construct data tables with both file and record locking. There was a report generator which was built on SQL. We used Magic Wand as a word processor and ran a spread sheet whose name I now forget.

We had the big memory (1MB) which let us run 3 terminals/processes on a Z80 at the same time. The Cromiix operating system was Unix like with T's and pipes etc and let us do wonderful things. I thought it was a great pity when Cromemco folded. --
