what you've shown above is that it's vital to have backups.

Why is it vital to have backups if data can;t be lost ?

*any* system can crash, whether it's the cloud or a local hard drive. the question is when, not if.

Exactly data will be lost, it's just a matter of when.

in the event something fails, you replace the failed component or wait for the cloud service to do it and restore from a backup if needed.

something fails data is lost.

nothing is lost. it's just an annoyance.

It's lost until someone can find it.

now, there will always be stupid people who don't make backups,

Only peole that realise data can be lost make backups.

Only stupid people don't realise data can't be lost.

which means they might lose data when something fails, but that's because they're stupid enough to not have a backup.

Think you have that around the wrong way, only inteligent peole understand the loss of data can cause problems, which is why they make a backup.

that's not a failure of the cloud. that's a failure of their own doing.

A failure to realise that data can be lost or at the very least changed.

when (not if) their local hard drive fails, they'll lose data too.

So inteligent people realise that data can be lost. Only stupid people think data can't be lost.
