nospamYou're confused about data lose yet again but that's another point. Most users use teh screen on an iPad in order to read what's on the ipad screen (excluding Dudley of course). Now if those magnetic sensors should become 'faulty' or lock up and those sensors think they are engaged, like wot 'appens when I put a magnet on them or when the cover engages those 'switches' then the screen goes blank, you CAN NOT read the screen. DATA is NOT lost just not viewable.

I didn't.
iPads had been brought up by various people at various times but on this occasion I was responding to your statement "there are no internal switches in iphones or ipads. period."
and as i said before, i forgot about the magnetic sensors on ipads. as i also said, it doesn't change the original point, in that a switch or button failure (any or all of them) will not cause data loss or be an issue with accessing it. period.
