.. but switches can, and do, break or cease to function, as one did on my Nikon Coolpix 900 (or was it the 990?). Fortunately a little switch cleaner restored operation. I guess you would get a similar effect were the touch-sensitive coating to wear, and it would not be repairable, although I've not heard of that happening.

probably a 990 which had an issue with the command dial.

however, the issue was data loss in storage devices, not camera failures.

Need to consider these things when buying a new camera.

there's no way to know if something will have a premature failure unless you buy it long after such a failure would occur.

in the 990 case, the command dial failure began to occur several years after the product was new.
