Frankly, I am somewhat puzzled about why people like nospam, and even you, try so hard to convince everyone that Lightroom is the panacea of photo editing. I get why you like it, but I don't get why you continually imply - if not aver - that those of us who are aren't on the bandwagon are doing something wrong.

nospam
panacea is another one of your twisty words.

Tony Cooper
The words I use can always be looked up in a dictionary. I can't always be bothered to edit my writing down to your level of understanding.

i know what the word means. that is not in dispute.

what's at issue is you're claiming it's a panacea. nobody said it was. you made that up. it's another one of your twists.

nospam
lightroom is *extremely* useful and fits the needs of a huge number of users, which is why it's so popular and should be the first app to start with unless there's specific needs otherwise.

based on your description of how you use lightroom, you're using it wrong, so you don't see just how capable it really is.

Tony Cooper
There is no "wrong" way to use Lightroom.

of course there is, but if you want to play more word games, which i'm sure you do, call it 'use lightroom in a very inefficient way'.

I freely admit to under-utilizing the capabilities of Lightroom, but that's not being wrong. I prefer to use the capabilities of Photoshop.

that's fine, but realize that there are better and simpler ways of doing things, and when someone says something can be done in lightroom without being handcuffed, then do not argue with them. you aren't in a position to do so.

We are doing what we feel comfortable in doing, whether it's continuing to use a CS version or Gimp, and most of us are turning out some pretty decent stuff in doing so. Any failings in output are more failings in input from when we push the shutter button.

nospam
in other words, 'we don't want to look at alternatives'.

Tony Cooper
Actually, the other words would be "We are able to process our images to our satisfaction using other tools, and we don't feel we need to find a different way to get to the same point".

only because they don't know any better.

if they have used both and *then* decide they prefer one over the other, that's fine. that's an informed decision.

Nospam's positions about effort and productivity are patently bullshit. The issue isn't about a production shop where there are deadlines and cost issues. It's about individuals pursuing a hobby.

nospam
it's not bullshit at all.

a hobby is far more enjoyable when one is more productive.

Tony Cooper
You are telling us what is more enjoyable to us?

i keep forgetting that you like to make things more difficult than necessary.

nospam
why make more work for oneself when the computer can do it for you?

Tony Cooper
Exactly. Learning how to get to the same place in LR that I can get to in Photoshop is more work.

only if you have difficult in learning things.

it's not hard to learn lightroom and the payoff is fantastic.

It would not be productive for me to devote a lot of time following those links Savageduck passes out like tracts from a JW when I can process my images the way I want to now.

actually it would, because you'd see just how much easier it is to do the same things.

but suit yourself. i certainly don't give a flying fuck what you do or how much time you waste.
