PS. I'm all but through "The Fellowship of the Ring" now and that really makes me appreciate how good the movie is. The journey to Rivendell is just mind-numbingly boring.
The thing is, Tolkien didn't write like he was writing a rousing adventure story. He wrote like he was writing a Victorian travelogue. If it had been filmed that way, the result would've been more like Merchant-Ivory with elves in.
