If, in our own little natural world, a frog can change sex when there are no males around in the breeding vicinity, then I think an alien being able to make an egg from a living victim isn't *too* much of a stretch...Yeah, I saw it, but I don't really think that this qualifies as an alternate mode of reproduction, simply the creatures still reproduce in the same manner. I was more think of creatures that are able to reproduce both sexually and asexually. I was reading somewhere about a species of tree that is about to become extinct, and has taken to cloning itself. I'm not too knowledgeable about plant reproduction, but essentially the male and female gametes (are they still called that in plants?) meet, but the zygote only takes on the dna of the male one. This is a freakish one-off mutation, but there are others (I'm thinking of some form of sea-based life) that have been capable of both sexual and asexual reproduction for quite some time.
