Not in my opinion, I'd go with Mageia 3 or the brand new open Mandriva LX which is looking qiute swish.

Too late - in my impatience I've hauled down Ubuntu 13.something and it's installing. Might not work - there's some ambiguity over the image for a Mac and I ended up with the amd64 load - though per the Ubuntu page it should work on later intel Macs. TBD.

It's installing under Fusion at present.

If that blows I'll try Mandriva (I had "Mandrake" amongst others about 13 years ago...).
