And why did the Israeli's occupy the West Bank and Gaza in 1967? Because Israel was being *attacked* from there. Should they just have continued to allow themselves to be attacked from those areas forever?

That is all ancient history. No Arab country has a chance to threaten Israel anymore, at least as long as USA keeps supporting it.

Before 1967, Israel was six miles wide at its narrowest point. Unless the U.S. is willing to keep massive numbers of ground troops stationed permanently in Israel (as it used to do in West Germany), it cannot possibly act in time to prevent an Arab attack from cutting Israel into two or more pieces. The Israelis themselves know that the 1948-67 borders put them in a hopeless strategic position against enemies that have never formally ceased to be at war with them; that's why they want bases on the Jordan.

Another thing: The U.S. was supporting Israel in 1967. Also in 1948, 1956, 1973, & 1982. That's five times the Arabs have gone to full-scale war against Israel, _despite_ the Israelis' American backing. If it didn't stop them five times before, why should it stop them now?
