TT ArvindThat's because no one has been able to adequately replace Goscinny, the genius who wrote the stories and dialogue for the earlier Asterix stories. He died tragically early.
However, if you want to read it, you should (a) get the British / worldwide translation rather than the American one, because the former is much better. Also (b) get the earlier books in preference to the ones that've come out since the mid-80s, because the newer ones are not as good.
