Come now, don't diss Donald! He is a creation of genius. It is true that most of the time, it is impossible to understand what he says; there is something of the French philosopher about him; but he really is a magnificent symbol for the unquenchable optimism and fighting spirit of the little man (or little duck). I agree about Asterix and Obelix being wonderful, of course. But I thought they weren't all that well-known in America?
Sadly that is true... they are not.
And yes, I argee that Donald Duck is also a great character.Strange to know that he was originally meant as a temporary character, turning up in a Mickey Mouse cartoon. With regard to Mickey Mouse, the great character in *that* household is, of course, Pluto. As a child, I loved the raccoon-hunting episode where we are shown how Pluto's clever nose can see (literally see) exactly what the raccoon has done and where it has gone.
