Anybody that advocated bombing the Irish Republic was no moderate. That being said, their are plenty of Ian Paisleys' on the Republican side as well.

Hatred on purely religious fundamentalist grounds?

I hope not, there's never any hope of reasoning with that type, as their killing isn't based on any kind of 'logic' or 'revolutionary philosophy', no matter how warped.
