None of the music apps, including Apple's Logic Studio and Garageband, which make up the majority of the 100GB in /Library, offered an option to store them in any other folder or volume. I see there are some articles out there on tips on relocating the Apple Loops from GB and Logic, but I am happy where they are. My Startup volume is about 550GB now, and I replicate it every other night two one of two 750GB drives for backup (SuperDuper).

Oh, I don't blame you at all. I locate many things in the same folders, too. If I need to keep track or make routine backups, I have a Label for backups I can run from a script. I was just trying to head off any criticisms that a large Library folder was a sign of bad programming or mismanagement on Apple's part. There are many things that might be stored there, and AFAIK no disadvantage to a large Library folder (aside from simple negligence, as I wrote.)

Like you, apparently, I store iPhoto and iTunes libraries on different drives from the startup volume. Backing up the User folder is slightly easier and faster with those huge folders somewhere else.

BTW - Mail doesn't story any user data in /Library, it stores them under the user's Home directory, i.e. /Users/Steve/Library.

Of course. I was responding to the estimates from HH, which were about growing folder sizes, even if a different folder in that case.
