1) Installed Ubuntu Gnome 17.04 2) Upgraded to the proprietary NVIDIA drivers 3) Noticed a symbolic link issue with the NVIDIA drivers 4) Followed instructions to fix it from an Ubuntu group 5) The "fix" screwed everything up 6) Reinstalled the whole operating system out of a lack of interest for fixing the issue by hand (without deleting the two other partitions) 7) 10 minutes later, back to square one with all of the settings intact. 8) Awesome.

Melzzzzz
Ahahahahhahahah. Try Manjaro, you have proprietary there on install ;)

Marek Novotny
We'll have to make a video of Slimer installing dkms, creating a new initramfs, adjusting grub and blacklisting Nouveau and then installing nvidia. Would be fun to watch him back that out. If he thinks Ubuntu is hard he needs to go back to Windows.

Melzzzzz
Manjaro does that with script ;)

Marek Novotny
Manjara, Ubuntu, Mint, Suse all make it very easy. I'll have to get a camera on a tripod so I can show it being done manually on RHEL. Slimer will freak out when he sees how it's actually done manually. He's got no appreciation for what Ubuntu is doing for him behind the scenes.

William Poaster
"Followed instructions to fix it from an Ubuntu group" Umm....but for someone who *claims* to have installed Linux in the 90s, you'd have thought that by now he wouldn't need instructions? He'd *know* what to do? Interesting too, that like most windoze users, he seems to be blaming Ubuntu for the problem, & *not* the nVIDIA proprietary drivers? (And YES, nVIDIA have screwed up their drivers sometimes. I used to revert to a previous release.)

Marek Novotny
Pretty common actually. Who in here has never had to roll it back?

Doomsdrzej
IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE DRIVER ITSELF. The driver itself worked fine. The issue was that after the driver was installed, any attempt to upgrade the system would result in the system claiming that two files were not symbolic links. That's it. It was, at best, a nuisance but enough of one to warrant people going onto web forums with a desire to fix it. Like I said, even more experienced users than myself couldn't come up with a solution so clearly, "rolling it back" was not the best way to go about it.

Seriously, I make an effort to detail my posts and explain everything. It's just sad that few of you bother to read it properly and instead insist on playing with the Prescott Cockroach. Hell, you read HIS posts attentively; why not mine?

Marek Novotny
Actually I skip 90% of his and for months at a time I don't read any. Believe me Slimer, I give you way more credit than I ever give Snit. If you'll remember, I was the first to say I don't consider you a liar and approached you with an open mind. Don't say I didn't cause we both know I do.

Doomsdrzej
You treated me very well. The only thing I ever took exception to was the assumption that I wasn't being honest about my experience with Linux. I don't lie about such things.

Marek Novotny
When you reported your fast boot up times and thought we call you a liar, I said nope, he's telling the truth did I not? No convincing needed here.

But you also attack my friends constantly and I don't like it. When I see you badmouth them, I'm more careless with how I treat you. Keep that in mind.

Doomsdrzej
If you're referring to Chris Ahlstrom and William Poaster, I will continue to insult them. I truly dislike both of them and wouldn't even feel comfortable being in the same room as them because I wouldn't trust myself not to give them a proper beating. I sometimes forget to filter them but they're properly binned for now.

Marek Novotny
There is this YouTube channel out there I think called, Instant Karma. Not sure of the name. It is full of guys who thought they were kick ass, started to fuck with something they thought was easy prey, and got their own ass kicked and humiliated. Gone are the days when the only computer users were some geeks. Everyone has a computer these days. I can guarantee you you will run into better, faster, people out there that will knock your block off with your attitude.

My best friend got in a tangle with some dude. I placed third in a free style fighting championship when I was in my early twenties. I studied Kenpo, lifted weights beyond my weight class, and in general thought I was pretty darn good. I stepped out of the car, asks the kinda to step back for a second and be reasonable. Out of no where he hooked me so hard my ear bleed. One super fast punch. Saw it coming, but he was so fast. I'm sure we'd all like to think of ourselves as being bad asses, but someone else is always better. Keep that in mind. In the real world there is no referee to stop the fight. Better hope you will win, because if you're wrong, you're completely at the mercy of the other guy. If he has no restraint, he just might kill you by beating you to death in less than 60 seconds. That's all it takes.

Doomsdrzej
Oh, I'm aware and I try to avoid fights either way. However, these two people have been unreasonable toward me since day one and I simply don't like either.

Marek Novotny
I can only lead you to water. I can't make you drink it.

Appreciated either way.
