Yesterday I went to hear Stephen Johnson speak.

<http://www.sjphoto.com/>

Previously, I took a one week workshopwith him, covering landscape shooting and Photoshop.

He repeated his conviction that LR has no real advantage over Bridge, except for its library function.

nospam
you must be kidding.

lightroom does *way* more than bridge. he obviously doesn't know much about lightroom.

did he say why or did he expect the attendees to suck it up like sheep?

PeterN
He also repeated that ACR should only be used for rough adjustments, and the fine tuning should be done in PS, because you have more control.

nospam
bullshit. a lot can be done with camera raw, with just as much control in camera raw than in photoshop, if not more so, because it's done earlier in the workflow.

PeterN
As for plugins, he never uses them because he feels that you get more control with PS. The only exception is using Perfect Resize.

nospam
that makes no sense whatsoever. plug-ins are part of photoshop.

he then contradicts himself by making an exception for a plug-in. what he's really saying is he doesn't use plug-ins except for the ones he uses.

PeterN
He never uses cloning, but: adjusts color, toning and crops freely. IOW nothing is removed from the image that was there when he shot it, and nothing is put into the image that wasn't there. He does adjust with curves and color tones. Oh! yes. He shoots with a 4x5 with a Better Light scanning back, and a Hassey.

nospam
so what. just because he works that way doesn't mean others must do so.

using a scanning back is very limiting and not just because it's big but because it doesn't work for moving subjects.

PeterN
Look at his work and judge for yourself.

nospam
there are some nice photos there but they are all so damned tiny it's hard to tell just how good they really are and nothing that is particularly exceptional either.

he also has some dead links on his site, which is further evidence he isn't as smart or as meticulous as he claims he is.

You have your opinion. Since you have not worked with PhotoShop CC, to any extent, your opinion is just an uninformed comment. -- PeterN
