Alan BakerThe DSGs are better than the Tips, but there's still room for improvement.

... From this perspective, the factor that you mention of the difference in timing precision & predicability of the two systems is thus a differentiator - - which has nothing to do with the 'how fast shift?' question because its metric is when the shift occurs relative to when the driver _expects_ the shift to occur.
I think you'll find that the paddle shift boxes in high performance vehicles now shift precisely when the driver expects...
It certainly is quite ironic, particularly in that he can't see how he has done this to himself time and time again. He did it with computers, camera gear, cars, real estate/property, investments, sporting goods, his snowblower even... and now he's back to the well with automobiles again. At pretty much every turn, someone points out to him in detail, just how 'clothing doesn't make the man'.-hhAlan Baker
What Nicolas also doesn't realize is that while he's now got (barely) one month worth of firsthand experience, other posters here have orders of magnitude more experience, with both Tips and DSGs, to be more familiar with their nuances and subsequent trade-offs. Nicolas is still too wrapped up in his glossy marketing brochure hype and new car smell to realize that as always, TANSAAFL applies.
What's really hilarious is that Nicolas is extoling aspects of his more expensive car and its neato, gee-whiz features... ...whilre railing against those who prefer the Mac... ...because it's more expensive and has nothing but a few neato, gee-whiz features. :-)
