No proof that anything comes out of the "same bin". The same usual nonsense from some stupid traveling salesman. Find me which components are shared ...

General article on parts sharing throughout the VW group (VW, Audi, Porsche, Bugatti, Skoda, and Seat and Bently-Did I forget anyone?) <http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/02/11/us-autos-volkswagen-future-idUSBRE91A04D20130211> Here's another one: <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Volkswagen_Group_platforms>

Note that this shows the Q7 shares its platform with the VW Toureg and, for that matter, the Porsche Cayenne.

Thanks for that Dave.

That also isn't the only example of platform sharing. For example, all of these were built on the same platform (and with variations, the same manufacturing line):

Audi A3 Mk2 (8P) Audi TT Mk2 (8J)[1] Volkswagen Touran (1T) Volkswagen Caddy (2K) SEAT Altea (5P) Volkswagen Golf Mk5 / GTI / R32 / Rabbit Mk5 (1K) Škoda Octavia Mk2 (1Z) Volkswagen Golf Plus (5M) SEAT Toledo Mk3 (5P) Volkswagen Jetta Mk5 (1K) SEAT León Mk2 (1P) Volkswagen Tiguan (5N) Volkswagen Scirocco (13) Volkswagen Golf Mk6 (5K) Škoda Yeti (5L) Volkswagen Jetta Mk6 (1K), (16) Audi Q3 (8U) Volkswagen Beetle (16)

In addition, there's historically been even stronger "parts bin" sharing than these. For example, the 914 was sold as a Porsche in the USA ... and at the very same time as a VW in Europe. Mechanically, all of the sheet metal and engine drivetrain parts were identical; the only material differences were to use the two different manufacturers' badges and, of course, the VIN#s.

However, this isn't to day that it is only VWAG who does this ... pretty much all of the big manufacturers do it too - GM, Toyota, Honda, etc. And Parts Bin sharing is also one of the technical reasons why automotive recalls have gotten bigger (more affected vehicles) in recent years:

"The number of vehicles called back for a single defect has ballooned over the years as car makers increasingly use common parts across multiple models to save development and procurement costs."

VW engine sharing: <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Volkswagen_Group_petrol_engines> How about 4 wheel drive systems: <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4motion> You can apologize to -hh now, Nashton.
