smsMy personal experience is quite different. I've owned 3 Hondas in the last 16 years, and haven't had any major issues with any of them. My Acura Integra was essentially trouble free for 12 years, while my two Accords have also been essentially trouble free. Had an automatic climate control problem on my 2003 which was eventually fixed under warranty, and the lights on the display panel (for radio station, set temperature, etc) died on the same car a couple of years ago. Otherwise, except for maintenance costs, they have been pretty trouble free. Can't say that about the US cars I've owned (see a previous post in this thread). [snip]

When I looked and drove the Jetta, the salesguy didn't want me leaving the dealership without buying as I had expected. When I casually asked him about wiggle room on pricing, he said that VW doesn't have those big incentives or discounts at the dealership, though they did have some.
I think VW/Audi makes all their money on repairs. I've had three VWs and while I loved the performance and handling, they had mechanical issues that you don't get on Toyotas. I'd avoid Hondas because the long-term dependability has been poor, especially on big-ticket items like transmissions <http://wheels.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/01/08/honda-transmission-problems-seem-t o-persist/?_php=true&_type=blogs&_r=0>.
